The history of the Palm Beach County Jail, FL, can be traced back to the early 1900s. In 1903, the Palm Beach County Commissioners approved the construction of a new jail to replace the old jail that had been in use since 1885. The new jail was located at the corner of Clematis Street and Dixie Highway in West Palm Beach. It was a two-story brick building with a capacity of 120 prisoners.

The new jail was quickly filled to capacity and, by 1915, the County Commissioners were considering expanding it. However, World War I intervened, and the expansion plans were put on hold. After the war, the jail population continued to grow, and in 1923, the County Commissioners finally approved the construction of a new jail.

The new jail was built on a site adjacent to the old jail and was completed in 1925. It was a four-story brick building with a capacity of 400 prisoners. The old jail was then demolished.

The 21st Century

In the 21st century, the Palm Beach County Jail population has continued to grow. In 2007, the County Commissioners approved the construction of a new jail to replace the old jail. The new jail was built on a site adjacent to the old jail and was completed in 2014. It is a 15-story concrete building with a capacity of 2,000 prisoners. The old jail was then demolished.

Inmate Programs

The Palm Beach County Jail offers a variety of programs and services to inmates, including:
